Learn German in Hamburg!
Hamburg, Germany’s second city, is commonly referred to as the Venice of the North and it’s easy to see why; with 2,300 bridges traversing its multiple canals, Hamburg boasts the most bridges of any city in the world!
Despite being located quite a distance from the open sea, Hamburg is very much a city that’s defined by water, with its port, harbour, two artificial inner-city lakes and multiple criss-crossing canals - one’s mind could easily be forgiven for going straight to Venice or Amsterdam when coungouring up images of Europe’s water worlds, but Hamburg is most certainly the unsung capital among Europe’s water-determined cities.
The harbour is home to Europe's third largest port and is an extremely important transshipment center for goods being sent out all over the world. Aside from being the hub and beating heart around which the city of Hamburg exists, the harbour is also perhaps one of the city’s top, if a little bit unconventional, attractions. The city’s maritime heritage can also be found in its architecture and wealth of eateries that offer an abundance of choice when it comes to fish and seafood.
Moving away from the city’s water-based attractions and culture, Hamburg is also known for its pumping live and electronic music scene, which of course gained notoriety in the late 1950s for nurturing the early talents of a certain Liverpudlian quartet that would go on to become a cultural phenomenon and create an everlasting musical dynasty - no prizes if you can guess who they are!
So what are you waiting for? If you want to learn German by the water and enjoy the vibrations of a musical port city then Hamburg is the place for you!
