Situated twixt ocean and mountains in the attractive south-west of France, surfing in the harsh Atlantic or hiking in the Pyrenees - Biarritz is the dream destination for your language trip!
Idyllic sandy beaches, fine dining, classy hotels, golf courses, typical Basque villages, the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route, a lively nightlife and a casino provide plenty to see and do in Biarritz. Besides Basque, native French is spoken. The locals are cosmopolitan and cordial.
Throughout the year there are traditional and international festivals, including the Fête de Bayonne in August or on the world famous Sanfermines in Pamplona in July - which is easily and quickly accessible thanks to the close proximity to Spain (25 km).
Biarritz is located in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques on the Atlantic coast of the French Basque country. Next to the "Halles" district, with its colorful markets and numerous restaurants and cafés, you will find the most beautiful beaches in the Bay of Biscay, the 25,000-strong surfer resort.
From the 73 meter high lighthouse you have a spectacular view of the city and the Atlantic coast. In the city center the night comes alive in the bouncing clubs and cultic bars. The surfing season is from August to October. During this time some surfing competitions take place, which have their own unique charm.
