Our Chess Camp is specifically designed for young people aged 8 to 18 who want to take their chess skills to the next level. Nestled in the picturesque surroundings of Braunwald, we offer a unique camp experience at the Adrenalin Backpackers Hostel, where you can fully immerse yourself in the game of chess while making new friends. Don’t worry if you’re not a chess master – the focus here is on having fun and learning!
Note: This camp does not include a language course! However, you can book an intensive course with 2x2 or 3x2 lessons per week in the afternoons if you wish.
What to Expect:
Morning Chess Lessons
Chess Training: Every morning from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, you'll dive into the world of chess. Our experienced chess coaches provide a mix of theory, tactics, and practice to help you improve your chess skills. Whether you want to refine your openings or perfect your endgame, you'll find the support you need to enhance your play. The lessons are conducted in English.
Afternoon Program:
After an intense morning of chess, you can join the regular friLingue afternoon program. Alternatively, you can opt for an additional language course (CHF 150 per week for three afternoons). If you'd rather engage in physical activities, we offer a sports program that includes football, tennis, and basketball – there’s something for everyone! Additionally, there are two exciting afternoons where we explore the surrounding area.
Evening Activities:
Our evenings are just as exciting as the days! Two evenings are dedicated to chess tournaments where you can showcase your skills. On the other evenings, you can enjoy a cozy campfire, a karaoke and disco night, and a relaxing movie night where you can unwind and relax.

What’s Included?
Morning Activities:
Dive into the world of chess every morning from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM! Our sessions are designed to challenge your strategic thinking and sharpen your chess skills. With a mix of theory, tactics, and practice, you’ll be ready to take on new chess challenges every day.
Afternoon and Evening Program:
After a focused morning of chess, you can participate in the regular friLingue afternoon and evening programs. This includes a variety of creative workshops, sports, and fun leisure activities.
Intensive Course Option (Language Course):
For those who wish to get a bit of language practice, you can book 2x2 or 3x2 lessons in the afternoon (see Extras). The intensive course is conducted in small groups of six participants.
Full-Board Accommodation:

The Adrenalin Backpackers Hotel awaits you on a sunny terrace in the Glarus Alps with the most beautiful views! The common room offers a lot of space where we can learn, play, dance, laugh and do much more together. We also have a common room with a pool table, soccer box and it will certainly never be boring!
For those who love the camaraderie of group living, our spacious 4-6 bedroom rooms with shared bathrooms provide a vibrant and social atmosphere where campers can bond and create lasting connections. Alternatively, if privacy is preferred, our 4-6 bedroom rooms with private bathrooms offer a more intimate setting while still accommodating a small group.
For families or close-knit friends, our 2-bedroom rooms with private bathrooms provide a cozy and homely space to relax and unwind. For those seeking their own private sanctuary, our single rooms with private bathrooms offer a tranquil retreat where campers can rest and recharge. We also offer dormitory-style rooms with shared bathrooms, perfect for fostering new friendships and building a strong sense of community.
Whichever room type you choose, rest assured that your child's comfort and safety are our utmost priority.
This is a provisional sample program. Activities and excursions may change due to bad weather or may be canceled due to force majeure or other circumstances beyond our control.
Morning Program
From 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, chess lessons take place.
Afternoon Program
We offer a wide range of workshops, including sports workshops (football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, frisbee, American football, etc.), art workshops (painting, drawing, graffiti, dance, yoga, meditation, etc.), cooking workshops, and much more. Alternatively, you can opt to book an additional language course (see Extras).
Evening Activities
The best comes last! Every evening is filled with fun and action, so you can happily fall into bed afterwards. Our fun evening activities include: disco night, karaoke night, card and board games, casino, movie night, campfire, zombie & werewolf games, sardines, reverse hide and seek, and much more.

For all participants who spontaneously decide during the camp to extend their stay for one week: from 800CHF

Please note that air tickets are not included in the price.
1. Zurich: every Sunday - 150 CHF per trip.
Arrival between 10.00 and 17.00.
Departure between 12.00 and 20.00.
2. Zurich: For arrivals outside the stated times - 400 CHF per journey.
3. Private transfer from Zurich airport - 500 CHF per trip.
friLingue offers an UNACCOMPANIED MINOR SERVICE at the cost of 100 CHF each way for incoming minor students. Please check your airline's age restriction guidelines. You may find further information on the Unaccompanied Minor Service by clicking on the following link: here.
ACCOMPANIED TRAIN RIDE FROM ZURICH OR BERN:
(for Swiss participants)
A member of our team waits for the participants in Zurich or Bern (each time at the main train station) and takes them to the camp along with other children and teenagers (by bus or train). At the end of the week, the participants are accompanied back to Zurich or Bern (again, to the main train station) until their parents (or another adult designed by the parents) wait for them.
Price includes the train ticket, per way:
40 CHF from or to Zurich
60 CHF from or to Bern
Price (per way) for participants with a General Abonnement (GA):
25 CHF from or to Zurich
25 CHF from or to Bern
Please note that for any late change (10 days before the camps or less) after booking this service (cancellation or other destination), friLingue will have to charge administration fees (40 CHF).
ARRIVAL/DEPARTURES:
Arrivals are on Sundays between 5 and 6pm at the chalet where friendly members of our staff will be waiting to welcome you and show you to your room Departures are every Saturday after the excursion between 3.30 and 4pm at the train station of that week's excursion location. The exact time and location will be confirmed by the camp leader during the week. It is also possible for parents or guardians to collect their children directly from the camp either on Friday evening or on Saturday morning before 10am, we just kindly ask that you notify the camp leader in advance.
